Resources for leading through crises
My blog post from 2017, “Managering through terrible times,” continues to (sadly) be relevant for folks leading teams through the tumultuous times we find ourselves in. Since first writing that post, I’ve developed a bunch more resources to help you and your teammates as you navigate the frightening impact of world events.
If you’re not sure where to start, I recommend skimming these three articles first:
-
Managering through terrible times: Use this step-by-step process to proactively create a supportive and safe environment, and respond to individual crises.
-
Handling the emotional weight of 1:1s: Our goal is to lead your teammates as they deal with continued grief and burnout, without getting (further) burned out yourself. This post will help you get there.
-
When your manager isn’t supporting you, build a Voltron: Let’s build out your crew of support.
I’ve also grouped resources for leading through crises (and building your own resilience) by topic. Something in this list may be relevant to your unique situation and what you’re experiencing right now:
- Manage your energy
- Strengthen your network of support
- When your role changes
- Build up your own resilience
- Help your team navigate grief
- Navigate organizational change & crisis
And last but not least, here are some tactical templates you can employ today:
- List of easy check-in questions for your 1:1s
- Copyable doc template: Defrag your calendar
- Copyable doc template: Communications plan (tick tock doc)
- Worksheet: Manager Voltron Bingo Card
I recommend bookmarking this new page of resources. It could come in handy in multiple situations!
Hang in there, Lara
